This site is written by author and editor Peter Aylmer.
Peter spent his career in the education service, his roles including teacher, politician, researcher and, latterly, writer and editor at national level. He has been fascinated by his family name ever since he learnt how to spell it, and realised that he thus had a gift few others possessed.
Peter’s recreations include trail and hill walking, cryptic crosswords, plus coping with the rollercoaster of West Ham United. He is the author of a guidebook for Cicerone Press, Walking in Essex (2013), and the follow-up, Walking in London, will appear later this year. He is publicity officer for the Mountain Bothies Association, and currently chairs two bodies: the London branch of the Long Distance Walkers Association, and the board of trustees for the charity Tdh UK.
Peter also runs a website devoted to walking in Britain, trailman.co.uk
